Local company underbids, loses Armory job.
Although questions surrounding the bid process arose, the Benton Harbor City Commission approved by a 7-2 vote to award a bid to Allegretti Architects, of St. Joseph, Michigan for the renovation of the old Naval Reserve Armony building.
Although Allegretti was not the lowest bidder for the project, it was awarded the job for the amount of $91, 205, for phase I and $19, 000 for phase II, not to exceed $4,500.
Questions were asked as to why the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development would accept Allegretti's bid, when they were the second highest bidder of five companies that submitted bids.
