Mickey Mantle was one of the greatest baseball players to ever don a baseball uniform. He could hit with power, run with speed and was a world champion a few times over. Surely he was great, but he wasn't the greatest. It was Mays who Mantle was often compared with.

My late dad, James Stanley Sr., once told my late brother, John "Duke" Wilson, "As far as I'm concerned, Mickey Mantle can't hand Willie Mays his glove." Meaning, Mantle couldn't field like the incomparable Willie Mays.
