Ibn Kenyatta seen as New York's `Mumia'.

A citywide grassroots effort to free artist/writer Ibn Kenyatta from prison seems to be gaining momentum. Kenyatta has been behind bars in New York State for the past 21 years on charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon, allegations which he has flatly denied.

Kenyatta has even turned down the opportunity to appear before a state parole board on numerous occasions, because to do so would suggest that he is guilty of the charges stemming from a 1974 incident involving a New York City transit police officer.
