African Islam.
During 1989 and 1991, two separate conferences were held in Nigeria and England, respectively, which gave attention to Islam in sub-Saharan Africa. The first was organized by the Islam in Africa Organization group (est. 1989), and the second was jointly coordinated by Harvard University's Center for the Study of World Religions and London University's Centre for African Studies. The edited proceedings of both conferences were published in 1993.
