An analysis of the Jamaican labor force.
The latest figure on the Jamaican labor force from the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN), shows a marginal increase of 0.4 percent in employment. In 1992, the labor force stood at 1,078,900, this figure has increased to 1,083,000 in 1993. The total population of Jamaica is 2.4 million.
Despite a marginal increase in the labor force unemployment is still high, some 18 percent of the labor force, and since the start of this year some 10,000 - 15,000 workers have lost their jobs.
