B.C. leader plans to use traditional sentencing circles for punishment.
Native offenders in British Columbia who plead guilty and take responsibility for their actions could get another option to prison.
Provincial Attorney-General Ujjal Dosanjh said British Columbia will adopt traditional native sentencing circles to deal with some offenders in tribes.
"It's something I've been very interested in," Dosanjh said. "It's an important remedial step to achieve our objective to take into account the values of native people."
The minister said his staff members are preparing formal policy papers.
