Reminiscing In Memory Of A Crusading Editor-Publisher.
When Calvin and I married in 1963, his constant dream was to own and start his own newspaper. The drive of that dream permeated all of our first year of marriage.
Of course, it helped that I was a frustrated journalist. The abolition of Howard's school of journalism before my enrollment there had dashed my desires along that line. His constant conversation about a newspaper that could "do something" about problems, feature "positive efforts of Black people" and "crusade for new initiatives" was stimulating.
