Merkin Hall Gets Radical: John Zorn Brings Avant-Garde Uptown.
`The sense of questioning is the common theme of all Jewish culture," says John Zorn, the saxophonist and avant-garde jazz composer. "It's at the very root of the Jewish religion, the constant questioning -- even of God. And whether you're talking about Einstein's thought, [Walter] Benjamin's thought or Rashi's thought, I think it all comes down to that same questioning."
In his latest project, the Radical Jewish Culture festival taking place Dec. 18, 19 and 20 at the Merkin Concert Hall in Manhattan, Mr. Zorn continues his long-standing questioning of the nature of Jewishness -- even if he is ...
