Distrust grows in WTO

SEATTLE, Dec. 3 (UPI) _ Efforts to open up the negotiating process of
the World Trade Organization in Seattle so that all viewpoints can be
heard was a stated goal of the United States, but one that its
representatives failed to achieve.

In the eyes of developing nations, they were once again shuffled aside
by the major trading powers.

Developing nations in Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia and Africa
showed their deep distrust of the WTO's ability to be more open in
their deliberations in strongly-worded statements condemning the open
process they were promised before coming to Seattle.
