Dayne wins Heisman Trophy
NEW YORK, Dec. 11 (UPI) _ Wisconsin senior running back Ron Dayne won
the Heisman Trophy Saturday night, overpowering voters the same way he
did opposing defenses.
In front family members, Dayne was announced as the runaway winner of
the most prestigious individual award in college sports.
Dayne became college football's all-time leading rusher in the final
game of the regular season and that achievement was too hard to ignore.
He was the top vote-getter in all six regions and received 586 first-
place votes, nearly 500 more than his nearest competitor.
Dayne joined 1954 winner Alan Ameche as the only players from Wisconsin
