(OSU Daily Barometer) (U-WIRE) CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A daily supplement of 500 milligrams of vitamin C can reduce high blood pressure in hypersensitive patients, researchers say.
Hypertension, a key risk factor in heart disease, is the leading cause of death in the United States, said Balz Frei, a professor at Oregon State and director of the Linus Pauling Institute.
In a recent study, Frei and other researchers found, on a long-term basis, that daily doses of 500 milligrams of vitamin C showed about a 9 percent reduction in systolic, diastolic and mean blood pressures.
Systolic pressure fell, on average, from 155 to 142 millimeters of mercury, ...
