Thais deny executing hospital gunmen

BANGKOK, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- The Thai government denied Wednesday that
troops who stormed a hospital to free nearly 700 staff and hostages in
the western province of Ratchburi executed the hostage-takers after
they had surrendered.

The hospital was stormed by elite Thai troops on Tuesday to recapture
it from Burmese rebels calling themselves "God's Army," an ethnic Karen
insurgent group led by 12-year-old twins.

All 10 gunmen who had seized control of the facility Monday morning
were killed. Seven Thai soldiers were wounded, and all the hostages
were freed unharmed.
