ENVIRONMENT-LATAM: ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE STILL JUST BEGINNING

MEXICO CITY, Jan. 28 (IPS) -- The Constitutions of Latin
American countries began to guarantee environmental protection
and sustainable development in the last 25 years, but these
objectives often exist on paper only, concluded a conference of
judges meeting in the Mexican capital today.
Unlike civil, labor or criminal cases, when it comes to the
environment, the courts have not yet reached the necessary level
of insertion, which puts environmental justice at risk, according
to experts in environmental law. Though Argentina, Brazil,
Colombia and Costa Rica are the exception, they agreed.
