Fed: Govt s attitude over drowning deaths questioned
BRISBANE, Feb 2 AAP - A Queensland swimming school manager today questioned the Howard
Government's attitude towards drowning deaths.
Chris Shapland said the government should be offering families an incentive to teach
under-fives to swim rather than slugging them with a GST on their children's swimming
lessons.
Mr Shapland, the managing director of Shapland Swim Schools, which provide more than
5000 lessons a week, said near-death water accidents left up to 100 Australian children
a year with severe brain damage.
