(The State News) (U-WIRE) EAST LANSING, Mich. -- On a day when Michigan State University President M. Peter McPherson called for outreach expansion during his annual campus address, the university made a bold step in that direction.

The MSU Board of Trustees accepted a land and building gift -- valued at nearly $7 million -- during its meeting Tuesday.

New Jersey-based Pharmacia & Upjohn Inc., a global pharmaceutical company, donated the gift that includes Brook Lodge, an 80-acre concoction of cottages and meeting rooms.
