(Oklahoma Daily) (U-WIRE) NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma named Australian novelist and poet David Malouf as the 2000 laureate of the $40,000 Neustadt International Prize for Literature Friday.
The Neustadt Prize is widely considered to be the most prestigious international prize after the Nobel Prize for Literature, and is often referred to as the "American Nobel." The Neustadt Prize has a record of 20 laureates, candidates or jurors who have been awarded Nobel Prizes following their involvement with the Neustadt Prize.
