Fed: Scientists track white shark near Hobart
CANBERRA, March 28 AAP - In a world first, scientists are tracking a white shark as
it swims through southern Australian waters.
CSIRO scientists have fitted the two-metre-long female shark's dorsal fin with an electronic
tag that transmits its position via satellite to a computer in Hobart.
They want to build a biological profile of the white shark, also known as the great
white shark or white pointer, to learn more about the protected species over the next
year.
"This is the first time a satellite tag has been used on a white shark," project leaders
John Stevens and Barry Bruce said in a statement.
