(Columbia Daily Spectator) (U-WIRE) NEW YORK -- As Queer Awareness Month draws to a close, organizers say the month helped bring Columbia University's queer community together, but admit it that it did little to reach out to the rest of the student body.

Many students say they were not aware that March was Queer Awareness Month, a month devoted to highlighting social and cultural aspects of the queer community both at Columbia and beyond its gates.

Formerly known as B-GLAD (Bisexual, Gay, and Lesbian Awareness Days), the name was changed to encompass other groups, including transgendered people, and to extend the duration of the events to a month.
