WA: Rosita likely to affect tourist season
PERTH, April 20 AAP - With the peak tourist season about to begin and the town already
packed with Easter visitors, Broome looks set to lose valuable tourist dollars in the
aftermath of cyclone Rosita as word of the damage spreads.
Although building damage has been mostly superficial, the resort town's biggest attraction
- the gleaming white sands of the famed Cable Beach - were last night washed out to sea,
leaving only exposed rock.
Scores of trees were uprooted around the town and also at the Intercontinental Cable
Beach Resort, which has been closed for a week while the damage is repaired.
