Art Director Carmen Dillon Dies

LONDON (AP) -- Art director Carmen Dillon, who won an Academy Award in 1948 for her work on Laurence Olivier's ``Hamlet,'' has died at age 91.

Dillon, who created sets for many memorable British films for more than 40 years, died April 12 in Hove, southern England, the family said. No cause of death was given, nor were any survivors named.

The first woman art director in the British film industry, Dillon joined the art department at Fox Studios north of London in the 1930s after six years of training as an architect and an unsatisfying stint with an architecture firm.
