(Indiana Statesman) (U-WIRE) TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- False fire alarms cost both Indiana State University and the city of Terre Haute time and money.

Out of the 20 to 25 fire alarms pulled each academic year, only five or six are from actual fires.

ISU Public Safety Police Captain Russell Floyd said most false alarms are pulled during finals week or when people just don't have anything to do.

"You usually find that it's done by the idiots or the people who first get to school here and are trying to be cool on their floor or to do it to see what happens," Floyd said.
