Excess liquidity seen keeping interest rates low, NATION

THAI interest rates are expected to remain low for the next six to
eight months despite continued volatility in international markets, said
Chulakorn Singhakowin, chairman of the Thai Bankers Association.

He told reporters yesterday that market volatility was under control
at the moment and excess liquidity in the domestic market should help keep
rates low.

Analysts expect excess liquidity of around Bt500 billion to Bt600
billion to be available in the market.

Despite a widely expected move by the US Federal Reserve to nudge up
its Fed fund rate by 25 or 50 basis points this month, Chulakorn was confident
