NSW: Children were guinea pigs for skills test
SYDNEY, May 9 AAP - More than 18,000 children across New South Wales acted as guinea
pigs for the state government today by sitting a numeracy skills test.
The children were Year 7 students at some government and Catholic schools which volunteered
to road test a new three-hour exam designed to pick up numerical strengths and weaknesses.
The Secondary Numeracy Assessment Program (SNAP) test will be compulsory for all government
schools from next year.
The results of the paper, which assessed students' abilities in number, measurement,
