Fed: Head of museum says Aboriginal remains should come back

CANBERRA, May 19 AAP - The head of the Australian Museum has entered a debate over
the fate of Aboriginal remains being kept in Britain, saying they no longer serve a scientific
purpose and should be returned to their communities.
The British Museum of Natural History recently signalled it might return some Aboriginal
human remains from its collection if British legislation is relaxed.
British Museum director Neal Chalmers said if the relics were returned, he would want
to ensure they remained available as an international scientific resource.
