CA State Sen. Wins Kennedy Honor
BOSTON (AP) -- A California state senator who won environmental protections for minority communities was awarded the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award on Monday.
Sen. Hilda Solis, who has won the Democratic nomination for Congress in her district and has no Republican opposition in November, was the 11th winner of the award and the first woman selected.
``Justice is not available to all equally, as we know,'' Solis said. ``It is something that many of us must struggle to achieve. ... As an elected official, I know that fighting for what is just is not always popular, but it is necessary.''
