Longaberger Employees Face Pay Cuts

DRESDEN, Ohio (AP) -- The Longaberger Co. will cut the salaries of 121 employees, reducing some wages now as high as $25 an hour to $9.

At the same time, the family-owned basketmaker said it was increasing the salaries of 617 workers and freezing pay rates for another 119.

Workers facing pay decreases are in the staining and handle departments. Most of the workers getting raises work in the School of Basketmaking, training, quality control, handle-forming and production departments.

The decision to change wage levels prepares Longaberger for future growth, said Jennifer Pearce, a company spokeswoman.
