(Indiana Daily Student) (U-WIRE) BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The city of Gary has not always been the stereotype of the urban hellhole.

Though now mired in poverty, crime and drugs, it was once a thriving hub of the steel industry. Through a federal grant, Indiana University will digitally archive its day in the sun.

With $19,000, the Digital Libraries Program is developing a Web site offering a photographic history of the city. The pictures chronicle the rise of Gary Works, the world's largest steel mill during the height of the American industrial revolution.
