Vic: Generator failure may cost consumers

Victorian Premier Steve Bracks says an electricity generator's failure in the La Trobe
Valley could bump up power bills for the state's households.

The Office of the Regulator General is probing the shutdown of a 460 megawatt generator
at the Loy Yang B power station last month, which has helped inflate wholesale power prices.

The investigation had been triggered by an application from the power station's owner
Gippsland Power to pass on the costs of the incident to consumers.
