ISRAELIS lump them all together as Anglo-Saxons, strangely using the name of fifth century marauding tribes to describe people from places as diverse and far apart as New Jersey, Bulawayo or Little Piddling in the Marsh.

Few Anglo-Saxons have become household names in Israel, although there are outstanding exceptions like Abba Eban, Chaim Herzog and Tal Brody.
