PARIS, Sep. 24 (IPS) -- The bilateral government creditors are
under pressure to do their part and lift the obstacles in a
comprehensive effort to ease the debt burden weighing on the
poorest countries.
The Paris Club of bilateral creditors are meeting this week in
the French capital to discuss whether or not to follow behind the
World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and meet an
opening demand for 90 percent debt relief to what they call the
"heavily indebted poor countries" (HIPCs).
But disagreement among the Paris Club lenders on a debt relief
hike, the Club currently offers only 67 percent ...
