is Weekend Edition. I'm Lynn Neary. On this date in 1985, Libby
Riddles became the first woman to win the Iditarod trail dog sled
race. Riddles and her team of dogs covered the more than 1100 miles
from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska, in 18 days. She took the lead late
in the race when only she was willing to risk going out in a bad storm.
