SCOTT SIMON, Host: Walk into your favorite record store and you may
not see a single record. They're not making many of the big, 12-inch,
double sided, black vinyl records any more. And though most listeners
welcome the increased fidelity and decreased size of compact discs,
there are people who remain devoted to vinyl. Among those who practice
a kind of audio folk art, the hip-hop D.J.
Hip-hop describes a combination of music, language and style, invented
and reworked by young, mostly urban African Americans. And at the
center of this culture are dance clubs that spin rap, reggae and R&B.
