SCOTT SIMON, Host: This is Weekend Edition. I'm Scott Simon. Coming
up, a reunion of the people who came south 30 years ago for Freedom
Summer. But first, it is estimated that 40,000 Canadians served in
the U.S. military during the war in Vietnam. That's actually more
than the number of Americans who sought to avoid serving in the U.S.
military by going to Canada. Many Canadians who died in battle are
listed on the Vietnam veterans' memorial in Washington, D.C., but
a group of Canadian Vietnam veterans wants recognition in their own
nation, and they have asked the Canadian government to dedicate a
