SCOTT SIMON, Host: The late sportswriter Wendell Smith will be honored during the induction ceremony at baseball's Hall of fame tomorrow. A long time reporter, both in Pittsburgh and Chicago, Wendell Smith was the first African-American admitted into the Baseball Writers Association, and he made the integration of baseball a personal crusade. He arranged a tryout for three stars of the old Negro leagues, and one of those players, Jackie Robinson, caught on with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
