SCOTT SIMON, Host: In 1973, Erica Jong wrote a novel that became a touchstone for that time. Fear of Flying was the story of Isadora Wing [sp], a smart and spirited, sexual woman of the 1970s, a period when the sexual and feminist revolutions were in full cry and the Supreme Court of the United States decided in favor of Roe, not Wade. Twenty-one years, six novels and several collections of poetry later, Erica Jong has a new book out, a memoir called Fear of Fifty. NPR' s special correspondent STAMBERG Stamberg caught up with the author on her book tour.
