this is Weekend Edition. I'm Susan Stamberg. This week the Senate'
s only African-American, a descendent of slaves, gave her colleagues
a little lesson in history.
CAROL MOSELEY BRAUN, (D-IL): Despite of [sic] the fact that we have
made strides forward, there are those who would keep us slipping back
into the darkness of division, into the snake pit of racial hatred,
and of support for symbols of the struggle to keep African-Americans,
Americans of African decent, in bondage.
