LYNN NEARY, Host: At National Public Radio, we have our own peculiar
definition of the word `temporary.' For example, for more than a
year now, my absence from Weekend All Things Considered has been `temporary.'
During that time, I filled in, temporarily, on a number of different
jobs here at NPR, most recently as host of `Radio Expeditions,' a
production of NPR and the National Geographic Society, which airs
on November 13th. But at the beginning of this month, my life achieved
a new permanency. I have joined NPR's cultural desk as a correspondent,
which means I won't be coming back to Weekends, except, perhaps,
to fill in `temporarily,' as I'm doing ...
