we begin a series called The American Culture Wars - the Search for
Common Ground. This week, we'll hear different perspectives on the
racial, sexual, religious and cultural differences that define and

James Hunter is professor of sociology and religious studies at the
University of Virginia. He has written extensively about the `culture
