The Solar Wind and Other Stuff From Space

Each second, the sun emits enough energy to provide all human energy needs for a million years. That energy has taken about 50 million years to work its way from the sun's dense core to the photosphere, or surface. Earth's share of that energy streaks to this planet in just 8 1/2 minutes.
By contrast it takes about three days for the solar wind to reach earth. The solar wind is a constant stream of electrically charged particles--fragments of hydrogen and helium atoms--cast off by the sun and sent flying through space.
