Aristotle, the ancient Greek scholar, stated that a rock falls faster than a leaf because it is heavier. Over a thousand years later, the Italian scientist Galileo Galilei measured the speed of objects falling and objects rolling down inclined planes. After several years of making detailed observations, he concluded that all objects fall at the same rate. Aristotle's conclusion about falling bodies was wrong; Galileo's was right. So what made the difference between the two scientists?
