Article: RIO GRANDE

00-00-0000
The Rio Grande is the fifth longest river in North America. It forms the border between the United States and Mexico for almost 1,300 miles (2,100 km). The river flows a distance of more than 1,800 miles (2, 900 km) from its source in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. The Rio Grande grows wider as it flows through New Mexico. It meets Mexico at El Paso, Texas, and then flows southeastward forming the boundary. The Rio Grande often floods when rain comes in sudden cloudbursts. It empties into the Gulf of Mexico near Brownsville, Texas, and Matamoros, Mexico. (See the map with the article on the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.)
