The Supreme Court is the highest court in the United States. Its establishment was authorized by the Constitution with the statement, ``The judicial power of the United States shall be vested in one Supreme Court, and in such inferior [lower] courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish.'' The Supreme Court heads the judicial branch of the Federal Government.
