From frozen, lonely fields in the north to meadows and plains in the
south, Sweden's landscape is beautiful. Rugged mountains divide Sweden
and Norway, the two countries on the Scandinavian Peninsula. Sweden'
s east coast is on the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia. Sweden
is about one-tenth larger than California. (See the map with the article

Icy rivers and waterfalls spill down the mountains and flow to the
coast through the dark forests of northern and central Sweden. There
are small farms in clearings in the forest. The only big farms are
in southern Sweden, where the soil is more fertile and the climate
is warmer.
