Okonkwo's resilience.
Okonkwo's resilient spirit is evidenced by the fact that even during the
first year of his exile he was making plans for the return to his home
village. This spirit helps him overcome the tragedy of his first son's
conversion to Christianity. Perhaps the loss of his son is partly offset by
the maturing of his favorite daughter, Ezinma, who over the seven years has
grown to be such a beautiful woman that she is called "Crystal of Beauty," as
her mother had been years before.
Return from exile.
When Okonkwo returns to Umuofia, however, he finds that some of his plans
will be thwarted by ...
