Background:

Little is definitely known about the production of Prometheus Bound,
though it seems likely that it was the first play of a trilogy, the other two
of which were probably Prometheus Unbound and Prometheus the Fire-Bringer. It
is known that a satyr-play, Prometheus (the Fire-Lighter), was one of the
plays produced with The Persians in 472 B.C. The staging of this play
undoubtedly caused great difficulty, for action of any kind is absolutely
impossible for Prometheus since he is chained to a cliff. Consequently, the
drama is quite static, though there is considerable psychological conflict.
