A Delicate Balance

Nine months after the harsh reception accorded to Malcolm, Albee made an
impressive comeback with a new, full-evening play, A Delicate Balance, which
opened at the Martin Beck Theater on September 12, 1966. The play starred
Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn as Agnes and Tobias. Criticism of the play was
extremely mixed with at least one critic saying the play was better than Who's
Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and another saying that it was an "old house" which
had not been very skillfully redecorated. Some people felt it was Albee's most
beautiful, richly musical play, but then went on to point out serious flaws in
characterization. ...
