Book II What is Good Character?

The Origin Of The Virtues:

How are the virtues formed and from what do they come? Aristotle tells
us that whereas intellectual virtues are the result of teaching, moral virtues
are the result of habit (the Greek is ethos, from which word comes the word,
ethics, or the things of habit). Moral virtues are not natural to us in the
sense that we are born with them. We have them from birth only as a
capacity which habit develops.

Comment: In this sense Aristotle holds the view that men are born neither
good nor bad, but with a capacity to become either one or the other. As we
