Chapter 27:

It is now revealed by the author that Master Pedro was really Gines de
Pasamonte, leader of the galley slaves whom Don Quixote freed earlier (Part I,
Chapter 22).

As Don Quixote and Sancho continue on their way to Saragossa, they come
upon the massed formation of the townspeople of the offended village whose
plight had been told to Don Quixote at the inn. The knight and Sancho ride
into their midst, and Don Quixote speaks eloquently of the various
justifications for taking up arms, in an attempt to dissuade them from doing
