Commins, Saxe, ed. The Faulkner Reader. New York: Random House, 1954. A
generous sampling prepared by a man who had close contacts with Faulkner from
1936 to 1962, when Random House published the bulk of Faulkner's work.

Cowley, Malcolm, ed. The Portable Faulkner. New York:
The Viking Press, 1946. Represented a veritable literary and critical
breakthrough for Faulkner, a "revival" or "resurrection." Cowley's
intoduction invaluable, even more so in its "updating" or Faulkner's status as
a writer based on his post-1945 books in Cowley's revised 1967 edition.
