Steinbeck's Statement Of Intentions

In the Introduction to this Study Guide, we learned important
biographical facts about John Steinbeck; we also became acquainted with some
of the basic philosophical assumptions underlying not only Of Mice and Men but
the novelist's work in general. The long Comment sections, which followed the
brief synopsis of plot, went into some detail about the characterization,
formal structure, allegorical and symbolic aspects of the novel. In this
